GH3 Feature Film Shoot

Still grabs from Adam Christie's feature film debut 'Weak Ends'. This microbudget project was shot fast and furiously at the beginning of June in the beaches area of Toronto. I was the cinematographer and shot the film on the Panasonic GH3 with Lomo spherical lenses mounted with the Hot Rod PL system.

Hills Green - ReelHeART International Film Festival

We are pleased to announce that Hills Green, the debut feature film from Krista Dzialoszynski and myself, is an official selection of the 9th annual ReelHeART International Film Festival!!  The film will be screening in Toronto in June and is in competition for Best Canadian Film!  We'll have more updates in the weeks to come.  You can also find us on facebook and 'like' our page to stay in the loop!  Press release below:

My brother made a little horror film in his apartment building and he asked me to create an original score for the piece.

So here it is, my first attempt at a film score!

Blackmagic Cinema Camera

In the calm after last week's snow storm, we were able to test out the new Blackmagic Cinema Camera.

We used a 35mm nikon and the Kowa/Bell and Howell 2x anamorphic adapter to make this little edit:

I really enjoyed using the camera and both the ProRes and RAW files look incredible.
Can't wait to use the m43 unit with my Hot Rod PL adapter on a production!

Got a few minutes to play with the Panasonic GH3.

50Mbps IPB. ISO 200.
35mm Lomo anamorphic. Hot Rod PL.
Standard all -5 (which gives a surprisingly flat image)

I think the camera is a nice update. Solid build.
Seems a little less noisy overall, and 800 and 1600 look nice.
No weird solid line thing at ISOs 800+. Dynamic range feels a little wider.
Not having the lcd/hdmi gamma change when you hit record is great.
For these few reasons alone I'd be much more comfortable using it on set.
